Fleetwood Returns and Off She Goes

July 26th, 2023

32 days later Fleetwood found her way back home!

Once we got the word Fleetwood was road ready, DJ and my dad flew down to California to pick her up and bring her back home. We then stayed a few nights at my parents house while my sister was visiting and my Dad was able to help us figure out some other projects. Some of which we were too ignorant to know were even problems. We had a dead cabin battery which would have made dry camping in a parking lot more enjoyable. Their neighbor also worked on our generator. He was able to get it started, but it still needs more work.

While Dad and DJ were working on Fleetwood, I was working on getting her ready to rent out. It was always our plan to rent out our motorhome once we got back from our trip to help pay the space rent and insurance along with keeping her running vs just sitting. What could possibly go wrong with this plan!?

Out first renter picked her up a week after we got her home. They had a wonderful long weekend at a family reunion and everything worked perfectly!!!  The next renter was supposed to pick up Fleetwood the day after she was returned. Once they arrived and we did the pre-trip walkthrough, but when they went to drive away Fleetwood wouldn’t start! We made a quick call to Fix-It Joe in California to ask WHY!!!! He suggested DJ crawl underneath and bang on the gas tank as hard as he could, after which Fleetwood started right up. However, that means she needed a new fuel pump.  The renters also had a family reunion to get to and couldn’t wait for the repairs, so they canceled their rental.

Once Fleetwood was repaired we took her back to storage and parked her for a month until another rental came up. Of course, if you haven’t figured out there is nothing easy about our dear Fleetwood! When we went to pick her up, she again wouldn’t start! Turns out she needed yet ANOTHER new fuel pump. Apparently, this is a normal thing and sometimes the first one is a dud. Thankfully this repair was quick and covered by the shop. This renter was able to wait a day for the repairs and eventually Fleetwood was off again on another adventure.

Fleetwood is off to work!
