Ready for Takeoff!
The Flam Fam is off on a trip to South Dakota for a family wedding.
There is somethings I LOVE more than anything-PLANNING & LISTS!
We have been blessed to be able to travel a fair amount since our kids were tiny babies. As they continue to grow so does our packing list. I’ve also found that the normal trip packing list doesn’t really work when we are traveling by air, so several years ago I created this packing list to use when we fly.
While I usually love everything to be typed up and beautiful, for my packing lists I prefer a handwritten one. This way I can continue to add to the list as new things are needed. I also put it into a sheet protector that way when I’m packing I can use a dry erase marker to check things off or add random things to the list. The things that are highlighted in yellow are things we have to wait until the morning of to pack.
On the other side is our usual trip packing and departure prep list. This list has all the little things we need to do before we leave or that we usually forget to pack.
The car bucket…is the barf bucket. We never leave home without it! We feed the fish and the cats before we leave and if we will be gone for more than 2 days we will schedule our friend and housekeeper to come by and check on them.
The night before we fly I pack up all the snacks. I will pack two gallon sized Ziplock for each kid, one is for the trip there and one for the trip back. This way I don’t have to worry about prepping snacks for the trip home while we are on vacation. I spent a lot of time on Pinterest looking up tips for traveling with kids and what makes an amazing plane snack. Our list of favorites now includes: chips, pretzels, popcorn, fruit snacks, granola bars, hard candy, gum, crackers, and cookies.

All packed up and ready to go!
Each kid gets one bag to last the day. They have to manage their own snacks and make them last.
My travel goal is always make it through TSA as quickly as possible so that of course means no liquid snacks! ***I do have applesauce pouches listed on the snack list, and we used to pack them when the kids were littler. They made it through TSA just fine. But I haven’t packed them in a while. We didn’t pack any this trip however TSA did ask if we had any food “pouches” so I think they just have to scan them separately.
With all the planning and prep this trip went off without any major issues.
